Organisation and Format
Workshop Organisation and FormatThe workshop will take place over three days at the University of Kent at Canterbury, followed by a half-day public roundtable for staff and postgraduates from the UK and greater Europe. The workshop will begin with a brief presentation based on a pre-published briefing by Fischer and Zeitlyn prior to the meeting, with discussion to establish initial reference points. Demonstration of some examples, real and imagined will be followed by establishing three subgroups to develop in detail themes relating to applications and methods and user requirements for anthropologists. Discussion will be free to diverge as the participants form a consensus on these and other themes that arise. The workshop proceedings will be recorded, and an edited version made available on the wiki subject to approval from each participant. The following two days will focus more on consolidation and making concrete recommendations, and developing examples based on the participants own or other research where possible. There will be an effort to produce at least an outline of these activities on the spot as a means of organising participants contributions over the two days. Day 4 will consist of an afternoon session for interested postgraduate and research students, interested anthropologists and other social scientists invited to attend. We have resources to offset the expense for postgraduate and research students. We expect this to help with future participation and increase awareness of ES/CI. More important, this will be a good source of feedback relating to the results of the workshop. |
