Nonanthropologists (e.g. scholars and non-scholars) seeking anthropological knowledge. ...

We need to manage this. Anthrogrid will give a more nuanced sense of anthropology. Who will build, validate, and maintain? Laypeople: reporters, government officials, applied researchers and policymakers.

Publishing models/customs are changing. ...

What is the emerging continuum of/trends toward publication conventions? Powerpoint as a publication method. People are throwing things on line. Grey lkiterature - field reports, white papers, internal publications. Stuff that's not being published period. Is the AAA working with other professional associations to evaluate, get ahead of publishing trends? Documenting copyright limitations for specific journals is a research problem - helps people evaluate what journals they want to publish in. Giving people power to negotiate copyright agreements. All this gets bundled in the repository. How have new publishing modes (e.g., LANL Xarchiv) played out in other disciplines. What about an iTunes model for distributing content? ...

Offline credibility ...

Need to identify models for collective evaluation of online product and content. How can we establish new conventions for demonstrating/evaluating/communicating credibility of emerging sources? Large body of content in a lot of locations, volume increasing. Grey literature is a subset. MetaSearch with a good harvester would help. Where are there models of credibility? Physics preprint server - ICPSR - models for what works. No longer can anyone say 'little is known about...' because people will clobber you for not doing your homework. ...

Anthropologists are notoriously peripatetic. Hence, many of our friends, colleagues, and spouses have developed creative ideas for figuring out were we are (and what on earth we're doing), so we could go to them for ideas. Navy SEALs rescue mission experts, wildlife biologists, and canine search and rescue (K9SAR) organizations are other case study options. ...

Can we identify, install appropriate technologies for tracking Michael's movements? What about data accessibility, privacy issues? Subcutaneous GPS unit and tracking software.. Pager is an immediate solution, but requires searcher to have phone access. Michael can easily ignore.

Nick Ryan used to have a web page which tracked his mobile phone location (he may still have it-- it's been a while since I had the time to track Nick's movements). Michael ALWAYS has a mobile phone and probably often has a GPS device. Between these two it must surely be relatively trivial to keep track of his movements within 10s of metres. Obviously this won't help us track him down within the Marlowe building environs but it could be useful when the workshop disperses to identify Michael's general patterns of movement. ...
